Each year hundreds of families travel to Boston from locations all over the world to give their children access to the world’s best medical care. In doing so, they face enormous hurdles such as navigating the complexities of the health care system, extraordinarily high local housing costs, and excessive emotional and physical stress. At the Ronald McDonald House at Boston Harbor, the stress of daily living is removed and families are supported by being provided with cost-free, private apartments at HarborView at the Navy Yard, which enables them to focus on what really matters: their child’s health and healing. This program is made possible thanks to the support of generous donors, sponsors, and volunteers like me.
I am running the Boston Marathon 2017 for a charity dear to my heart - The Ronald McDonald House at Boston Harbor (formerly Home Away Boston). I am specifically running in honor of Scott (#ScottSquad). He is a middle schooler with autism from the D.C. area who stayed at RMH over the holidays. My kids, Alexandra and Austin, and I were immediately drawn to him and loved spending time with him as he shared with us his love of babies, the moon, legos, and singing; he also reminds me so much of the students with whom I work so the connection was instant. Scott is battling brain cancer, and his family is extremely grateful for the support from RMH Boston Harbor. My training trials and tribulations seem minor in comparision to the obstacles Scott and his family face.
Come join me and my family for complimentary appetizers, a cash bar, a silent auction, and raffles to raise money for RMH Boston Harbor and kids like Scott! Many Charlestown businesses have generously donated to the event and auction items include:
- *Signed Edelman jersey (Value = Priceless!)
- *Girls' Night Out at Best Dressed
- *Cut-Splice goods and services
- *Mockingbird toys
- *One night stay at the Marriott
- *3 Month Membership to HarborView Health Club
- plus items from Bunker Hill Florists, Warren Tavern, Haven, Encore Apparel Company and more (the list keeps growing)!!!
Tickets are $15.00 in advance for a single admission and $12.50 each for groups of two or more! Tickets will be $20.00 per person at the door. Kids are welcomed to attend for FREE! Proceeds from the event will help to cover the cost of furnished, private apartments, utilities, groceries, and other essential supplies for families with critically ill children.
