Thank You from The Charlestown Coalition

This past Saturday June 10th, we had our 8th annual Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event was a huge success, with residents turning in a record-breaking 68.2 lbs of prescription medications. Turn it Around members assisted with weighing the prescriptions, giving out gift cards, explaining the group to community members, and selling water bottles and swag bags.

Hear from Turn it Around member, Kaltuma, about her experience with Summer Search Boston!

I got nominated for Summer Search at school (East Boston High School), and basically I've been doing it ever since my sophomore year. You get assigned a mentor and talk to them about anything you want. You talk to them once a week. Even when I graduate, I'll still get to talk to my mentors during my college years and so on.

8th Annual Prescription Take Back Day

The Charlestown Coalition's 9th Annual Prescription Take Back Day will be held on Saturday, June 10th. We will have a table in front of CVS during open market from 10-2. Please bring any expired or unused Prescriptions or over-the-counter medications and receive a $5.00 gift card!! We are still looking for gift card donations from local businesses so please consider supporting this important initiative. Last year we removed 1019 unused prescriptions (over 60lbs!) from our community!!  Help us make this year’s event even more successful!!

Grand Opening of the BCNC Pao Arts Center

The Pao Arts Center, Chinatown’s first community-based arts, culture and education center, is a partnership between the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center and Bunker Hill Community College that reclaims a critical piece of Chinatown’s history. Parcel 24 on Hudson St., which at one time was the home to hundreds of Chinatown residents before they were displaced in the 1960s, has been reimagined as a place for Asian arts, culture and education, and also serves as a community-based space for classes and workshops for Bunker Hill Community College faculty and students.
